Hello! My Name is Emily and this is my husband, Chris. We have been married for 14 years and we have four wonderful children of our own, aged 13, 12, 9, and 7. We own a home in Bowmanville just north of the Bowmanville zoo. We love living here! We both have family in town and love that we are able to raise our children here with them. We believe in having strong family values, developing a good work ethic, and being involved in our community.
I worked outside the home until my third child was born, so I do understand the concerns and worries of finding a childcare provider. I try to provide a daycare situation that I would want my children to be a part of if I were still working outside the home. I take great pride in my program, and strive to provide high quality care, with regard to the children's mental and physical well-being.
My philosophy towards child care is to provide a home-like environment, with the security of having a basic routine and a constant caregiver. I believe that children learn best through play, and try to offer opportunities for both structured and free play. Children here certainly aren't lacking in love and attention!
I have been involved, politically, with the creation of the new Child Care And Early Years Act that came into effect in August 2015. I spoke at Queens Park in November 2014 for the Standing Committee, organized and attended rallies, to ensure that home providers, the backbone of child care in Ontario, were heard in the development of this new legislation that will change the face of daycare in Ontario. I am the Durham Region spokesperson and Executive Council Member for the Coalition of Independent Childcare Providers of Ontario (CICPO), and have greatly enjoyed my volunteer work there, advocating for parents and their choice in child care. As such, I will ALWAYS operate within the boundaries set out by the Ministry of Education.
